Katherine Hammitt
President

Katherine’s first involvement with River Canyon School was in 2011 when she was invited by a parent to be a fairy at the Harvest Festival. It was then that she fell in love with the school. Now her daughter is in her second school year with River Canyon. Originally from Mississippi, Katherine moved to Prescott, AZ for college and eventually found her way to Grand Junction. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from CMU and before having her daughter, she worked for the US Geological Survey as a Hydrologic Technician. Katherine now works for Brothers’ Inspection Inc. which provides the perfect work/life balance she needs as a working parent. Katherine enjoys skiing, biking, rafting, and traveling with her family as well as yoga, fiber arts, and reading.

Shelley Warsaw
Secretary

Hannah has been with River Canyon School since her oldest son, Clayton, began attending in 2017. She has lived in Grand Junction for most of her life and has a degree in Graphic Design from CMU. Hannah has worked at HopeWest since 2009 and is currently a stay at home mom for her 3 boys. She still works as-needed at HopeWest as well as serving on the steering committee for a local MOPS group. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, crocheting, doing puzzles, taking walks and spending time with her family.

Gisela Ferguson
Member at Large

Gisela has been with River Canyon School since its inception in 2008, and both of her sons have attended the school. Gisela’s history with the school, professional background, and love for Waldorf education make her a natural fit as the school’s Advisor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in bilingual education and a Master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition and ESL. Gisela is a native of Chile. She enjoys traveling and camping with her family, trail running, yoga, and spending time in her land in beautiful Patagonia.
